What is a meter base?

The meter base is the unit, usually on the exterior of your home, that holds the power company's meter.  The meter base is positioned between the power companies wires, bringing power to your home, and your home's electrical system.  The meter measures the amount of electricity going into the home.  This is how the power company determines how much energy you are using so they can determine your energy cost.
